These were the years after the fall of 1989. Attention suddenly headed West on our country. First appeared in Western media about the shocking reality beyond "Iron Curtain", see first Western plight of Romanian orphanages.

And, as always in times of crisis was felt human solidarity. People, impressed, began to collect and send aid to the country. They came to see what actually is the situation here, came to bring relief to children in Romanian orphanages wretched.

Among the charities who then decided to engage in Romania included the SKIP, Pestalozzi Children's Villages Foundation in Switzerland, based in Trogen. They came with material aid, impressed by the images in the media. But they arrived here they saw that the situation is more serious. The flower is not spring. In a country which suffered many privations was hard to cover, by aid needs.

Therefore the Pestalozzi Children's Village Foundation Trogen decided to become more deeply involved in education and in changing the child protection system, based on her experience of 50 years in the administration of village children.

SKIP Switzerland, with a handful of Romanian enthusiasts, founded in 1994 Pestalozzi Foundation Romania, in partnership with the Swiss Embassy in Bucharest and the Ministry of Education of Romania, opened a project that would make history in post-revolutionary Romania : first post-high school social pedagogy, lasting two years, to the educators of children's homes.

Opening the project was a success. Selection was drastic, many educators in children's homes were, at that time, unskilled, "restructure" in other fields. This school was a rare opportunity. Pestalozzi School value added was that there was no school 'weekend' formal nor a merely theoretical. It was a school "while working" in which educators were theoretical modules, alternating with modules of practice, the transfer of daily activity theoretical concepts from the course. For the first time their work was guided by the Supervisors of the Pestalozzi Foundation and practice of professional counseling they received through individual and group supervision provided by the program.

Pestalozzi School was a success. Through the Foundation Petsalozzi, social pedagogue occupation was brought to the choir in December 1995 and the first three classes (1995-1997, 1996-1998 and 1997-1999) were successfully completed.

In parallel, the Foundation conducted by the Department for Innovation in Social Assistance projects whose beneficiaries, direct this time, were all children in orphanages. Thus, the Foundation has established a family-type house in the village of Giurgiu county boundaries, which were raised eight children, one of the first of its kind in Romania. In parallel, in Bucharest opened three social apartments, the ... young children out of homes, and began life with the support of counselors Pestalozzi Foundation.

The Foundation also owns a day care center, the seven star club and has developed projects to the Life Orientation for all children in orphanages. Often the beneficiaries of these projects subsequently left to work as volunteers in day center.

Here therefore the effort as the Foundation was started one converged, programs having both a theoretical orientation, the Department of Training and a practical orientation, the Department of Innovation in Social Assistance.

In 1999 our chance to smile again and Pestalozzi Foundation had the opportunity to enter into a partnership with the University of Bucharest, Faculty of Sociology and Social Work, so that training came from the secondary level, college level. Thus, the University of Bucharest was founded College of Education and Social Welfare Community, which included, along with Social Welfare, two new branches, Probation and Social Pedagogy.
